Thanks to our good friend Mike Spencer for taking some great live shots at our Royale show this past week. You can check these out in the "Media" section below!
It is with the utmost joy and excitement that we officially introduce you to our new cellist, Calin Peters! As a Massachusetts native and Berklee grad, she has been heavily involved in the Boston music scene and we couldn't be more excited to have her on board as the newest Thief! Please join us in giving her the warmest of welcomes!
We’re very sad to announce that after two great years, Rachel will no longer be performing with The Ballroom Thieves. Rachel will continue to be the amazing musician she is as she plies her trade with nationally acclaimed artists in the Boston music scene and beyond, and we encourage you all to stay in touch with her so you can be the first to find out when and where she’ll be performing next. We wish her nothing but the best and would love to send her off with some positive messages from all of you, so feel free to post your well-wishes or any other message you have for her to the links below!
A Letter from Rachel:
Dear Ballroom Thieves family,
After 2 years of amazing experiences, over 150 shows, two recordings, new friends met, new places discovered, and a whole lot of great music shared, the time has come for me to start a new chapter in my life as a performer and cellist. I'm so grateful to you for the love and support you've given me and the band over these two years- thanks for the chance to touch your lives through music.
Your spirit and joy built the amazing memories I'll carry forward from this time. I hope you'll stay in touch over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and keep an eye on rachelgawell.com for all the latest.
I wish the Thieves the very best moving forward, and I know I'll see you all down the road.
Stay tuned for an announcement shortly about the newest member of the band, but for now, let's all thank Rachel for her contribution to the Thieves.
We just wanted to fill you in on some updates pertaining to our new EP coming out this fall. As many of you know, we spent 10 days recording in California in early 2013, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. However, the music has developed and truly grown into a much more polished sound since January, and we wanted to accurately portray who The Ballroom Thieves are right NOW! So, we have officially teamed up with Mike Davidson at Plaid Dog Recording and started from scratch. It's sounding great and we can't wait to show you this new project (which is still right on time!). Same Thieves. New EP. Get ready, folks.
All the best,
Fall tour dates are now updated! Check the schedule above, and all of the details are in the "Tour" section of the website. See you soon, folks!
We thought we'd keep you updated on how the PledgeMusic exclusives are coming along these days. As you can see here, Martin and Devin are filling disposable cameras and knitting scarves. Not pictured is Rachel baking furiously. Most importantly, the music is coming along nicely and it's almost in its final state. We're so psyched to share these new tunes with you, and if you haven't ordered it in advance, no need to wait! You can still pre-order everything on our PledgeMusic page, and that's definitely the way to get the EP in your hands soonest.
We just added a slew of June dates to the schedule and we'd love it if you joined us at one or all of them. Check the "Shows" tab for a full calendar!

"You may not think The Ballroom Thieves to be a rock band, but with the energy that they bring to the stage they can unquestionably be classified as just that. -Maimed & Tamed Music BlogRock disguised as folk. In January 2012 The Ballroom Thieves broke into the Boston scene with a five-song, foot-stomping EP entitled The Devil & The Deep. Since their debut release the trio has captivated audiences with their unique instrumentation and dazzling three-part vocal harmonies. In the span of just one year they have performed at over 50 colleges nationwide, shared the stage with established acts such as Dispatch, The Lone Bellow, Little Green Cars, and Houndmouth, and played to sold-out crowds at the The Sinclair, Great Scott and the historic Club Passim in Cambridge, MA.
The Ballroom Thieves consistently deliver inspiring live performances highlighted by the group's infectious passion and raw energy, which are unrivaled in the local acoustic music scene. The sonic diversity of their growing repertoire allows the band to entrance an intimate listening room one night and entertain a large festival crowd the next.
